SOLIDARITY STREET GALLERY 2024 - Jilly's painting 'Norah' has been selected to be part of this gallery!
The Solidarity Street Gallery is a free, annual arts and cultural festival in St. Paul, Minnesota that takes place along Payne Avenue. The event celebrates the diverse communities that live in the East Side of St. Paul and the Twin Cities area.
SOLIDARITY STREET GALLERY began in 2020, as an outdoor celebration of the arts when conventional art spaces and community events were shut down due to Covid-19. A walkable street gallery in the storefront windows of local businesses along Payne Avenue created a way to highlight artistic innovators and safely bring together people of our neighborhood, to cope with stresses from the pandemic, commemorate and honor George Floyd, and experience solidarity in a meaningful way
Please join us for SOLIDARITY STREET GALLERY 2024, a one-of-a-kind fine-art exhibition and cultural celebration along Payne Avenue in St. Paul, MN, to be held Oct 4+5+6 this year:
--- Friday, October 4, 5-9 PM
--- Saturday, October 5, 12-9 PM
--- Sunday, October 6, 12-5 PM
For these three days in early October, Payne Avenue will transform into a lively street gallery and street fair that includes fine art exhibitions at 20-25 gallery and business locations, featuring the works of 50 to 60 visual artists (Of which JILLY is one!); live music and poetry readings at several of these locations; and a collaborative community art project. Our local businesses, many BIPOC owned, will play a central role in the celebration, by displaying art in their storefronts; bringing part of their business out on the sidewalk; and offering food or retails specials during the event. Additional vendors and non-profit community organizations will also set up tables or booths.
The theme this year is MIGRATION & MEMORIES. The intent is to acknowledge, embrace and celebrate that all who make the Eastside of St. Paul their home or place of work migrated, or were displaced, from somewhere else - and treasure and practice their cultural traditions and heritage. Visual art, live music, dance, and poetry will weave together a one-of-a-kind multi-cultural tapestry of the stories, experiences and memories of the native people and their sacred sites on the East Side; the European settlers who first developed many of the local neighborhoods; the African American, Southeast Asian, and Latino communities who constitute major resident and business owner groups nowadays; and recent waves of immigrants from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East who choose the East Side as their new home.
The event is free and open to all - local residents and visitors from the greater Twin Cities area.
